Kim Yong-Seok

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to development a risk and protective factor scale for adolescent gambling problems. Preliminary items were developed based upon the literature review on adolescent problem behaviors including gambling, the review on existing similar scales, and qualitative interviews with adolescents and their parents, teachers, and social workers. A total of 1,536 adolescents were participated in this study. Through a series of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, six risk factors and six protective factors were identified. all the 12 subscales showed satisfactory internal consistency reliabilities. However, 4 protective factors and 1 risk factor did not have satisfactory validities. The final risk and protective scale for adolescent gambling problems is composed of 2 protective factors and 4 risk factors with 35 items. It suggests that future studies identify more protective factors in order to make the scale more complete.
